A single bed frame is used in conjunction with a single bed sized mattress and box spring. This is the smallest size bed and is commonly used in small bedrooms for guests or children.

They come in different sizes for different purposes. A king is the largest other than custom ones. The king is largely used for couples. The width of this is no wider than a queen, but it is longer than a queen.
The next in line is the queen. This is much like the size of a king except that it is shorter in length. This is also favored for couples to sleep in. Frames for both king and queen sized mattresses are the same size, sometimes they come in adjustable models. Full size are among the most popular sized beds. They are used by couples and individuals alike. They are not as wide as queen sized beds but are generally as long. Full size frames can sometimes hold queen size mattresses.
One size down is the twin size bed this is just a bit wider than a single. A single frame can probably hold a twin size mattress, but it is made for a single bed mattress.
Perfect for Smaller Bedrooms
These types of beds are largely used in small bedrooms that cannot accommodate a larger size bed. They are used in children's rooms and in guest bedrooms they are normally used for one single person to sleep in.
Bedding
Bedding for a single bed is a lot cheaper than for any other type of bed. The sheets and blankets are typically a fraction of cost compared to other sized bedding. There is a wide variety of bedding available for this type of bed. There are different colors and textures available that can compliment any room décor.
Cost
The least expensive of the beds are the single bed frame size. The frame itself will run around fifty dollars or so. Some of these bed frames come on casters for easy movement, most however come on solid legs for security purposes to keep the bed from moving around while someone is sleeping in it. Most all of these frames are made from metal, although there are some models that are made from wood.
